John Wayne Childers

            John Wayne Childers, age 74, formerly of Hiddenite, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 in Florida.

            John was born May 24, 1949 in Iredell County, the son of the late James Bard Childers and Dorothy Campbell Childers.

            He had worked in the textile industry and retired from Schneider Mills. John was of the Baptist faith and loved to do anything outside and could fix anything mechanical. He lived on the lake most of his life.

            Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his siblings, an infant brother, Richard Lynn Childers, a brother, James Larry Childers and a sister, Kay Ashley Childers.

            Those left to cherish and honor his memory include: his son, Chris Smith of Florida; his daughter, Melanie Childers Johnson of Burke County; seven grandchildren; his sisters, Rowena Childers and Elizabeth Ann Sloan both of Alexander County; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
